My OH Martin was pretty much set against me getting a shepherd - he had been attacked as a child by one. It’s taken time for them to bond as Martin was wary. It’s finally happened. You can see the love and it’s magical! Zeus: I will melt your heart and you will love me...

Ah that's great that they have found a bond. My father was the same about pets in the house the most we were allowed were two budgies one yellow one green, that was it dogs a definite no. As soon as I moved out at 18 the first thing I did was to get a shepherd, my first dog. I used to take him round to see my parents and my dad was besotted by him and always gave him a cuddle. And my grandson when young was terrified by all dogs and couldn't walk past one that was on a lead on the opposite side of the road. His parents thought hard and there cure for this was to get him a Springer Spaniel. And of course he learned to love this dog until this day and went on to be Aide's best buddy. So all it takes is a little bravery and get to know these animals well and the jobs a goodun.

You’re right there Chris. I think it helped me being away, it was a huge leap for him being soul carer for him. We had a back up plan Incase it went south but I’m pleased to report it didn’t and all is well.

I live in Surrey Anyway, I was attacked by a dog as a small child, bitten by the face and inside my thigh and my parents thought I would need cosmetic surgery but I was 5ish and I healed. I still have a very faint scar on the cheek... and I still remember the attack, it was unprovoked and the dog was crazy and in the end died of old age! Therefore I still am afraid of dogs - but also love them to bits... Django is my first dog and although there were times at the beginning when he would growl and I would get scared, I've gone over this stage completely. Now I am not afraid in the slightest and I am deeply and irrevocably in love with this dog. I am still afraid of other dogs through. I would never pet one without letting him smell me and show me he's friendly first. Attachments:

Well we shall have to come camping in Surrey next summer then!
That is a gorgeous photo of you both!
I was bitten by a Springer when I was around 8 years old I think. My little brother used to antagonise it through the fence so inevitably he got out one day and got me instead of him as I’d shoved him through the gate and closed it. I remember sobbing my heart out begging my Mum and the doctor not to put her to sleep as it wasn’t her fault it was my brothers. I went to our next door neighbours after the doctors and begged them too. They secured the fence so she couldn’t get out and she lived to a ripe old age of 13 I think she was. Thankfully I didn’t end up with a fear from it, I knew it was my little brothers fault and she meant to get him not me. I remember my mum telling me off as I kicked my brother really hard for it lol.
It’s a brave thing you have done and well done you! It can’t have been easy for you. Martin is a 6ft tank of a man and I could see the fear he had with Zeus even as a puppy.
To face your fear - now that’s bravery!
I’ve edited this - bitten is a better word than attacked for what happened.

That's a lovely picture, Jules How far North?? Can't be hard to arrange a walk where we could meet you, CChris and I have got a bunch of ex-MGS friends that live that way We once combined My German Shepherd and GSRE for a walk at Jeskyns park, had about 90 sheps!! I am still afraid of other dogs through ... Once you can bond with the inner dog of 'your' dog, you can find the inner dog in all of them - after that, no breed is ugly/scary/nasty/... <3 ... I would never pet one without letting him smell me and show me he's friendly first. That's just good manners

How far north? I can see Hadrian’s Wall haha. I don’t mind driving to meet for a walk though. That would be awesome! If it’s a long way down I’ll camp (any excuse to get the tent out!) And thanks Brian. It’s one of my favourite pictures now.

You can’t say dogs and camping to Brian in the same sentence without him counting his pegs Jules. This is is how we roll.

Oh wow. I wanted a caravan but the kids recoiled in horror. As did Martin as he cannot tow as he passed his test after the changes.
That’s a gorgeous Van!
Hahaha we could get a site that allows tents too! Ooo shepherd camping. How fabulous would that be!

We did that once near Cheadle near Stoke on Trent, so that we could meet the members from ‘tup north’. It rained like you would not believe when we arrived. One of our group bought a posh tent especially for the occasion so we shared putting up her tent and getting the food on the bbq. Sadly one box has ‘2 of 2’ on it so we asked where the other box was and she said that they had only sent one. It turned out that the box we had contained the two bedrooms and not the main tent. We had to send the two Teresa’s out to go and buy another one.......it was hilarious.

Oh that’s brilliant. I can imagine it would have been hilarious.
I forgot the tent pegs once. Never been allowed to forget that one.
Well it would be brilliant if we could organise something for next year. My max drive time is 6 hours an you southerners all have posh smart motorways and dual carriageways so it’s an easy drive.
It would be good to meet everyone!
Lol Amber would be in heaven!

Me too pls!! We love camping with the dogs and Ginto needs to realise she's a gsd and not a cockapoo!!
Ginto, Django and Zeus are all about the same age too. They might all have a clean bill of health by then 🙈😂.
Luckily I've never been bitten by a dog. Know plenty who have and 9/10 of them gsd. Inc my mum who was bitten by 2 of gramps rescue sheps. Ginto curing her of her fear. Always had dogs.. Pics of me as a baby playing with a beer can nx to big Max - my grandad was a liability!
Would be great for a meet. Jeskyns not far from me at all (obvs too far for others). Not braved it yet as mum goes there all the time and there's a lot of dogs.... 🙈
