My big beautiful boy died suddenly yesterday, he was just five years old. Collapsed while out for a walk, initially I thought he was fitting but he stopped breathing and his heart was racing. No blockages in his throat, attempted CPR to no avail he died in my arms. Lovely lady helped me get him to her car and down the vet, nothing they could do but possible stroke, blood clot or whatever they are not cutting up my boy for an autopsy. Run Free Big Fellah I loved you dearly.

Really sorry for your loss, must be devastating, all of a sudden and no warning as such. The only comfort might be that you were with him in his last moments, but still, does not help at all...

Oh no, I am so sorry for you - and so suddenly too - what a shock. My boy Max died suddeny at aged 8 yrs old and although we were obviously devastated (and still feel it to this day), we were heartened by the fact that he'd had a lovely afternoon pottering about in the woods and chasing squirrels up the garden. As has been said before, at least he died whilst out and about - and with you.

Oh Alan, that's heartbreaking - always terrible but especially with such a young dog. Happened to me with Ellie (possible stroke??), my heart goes out to you.
I remember walks with Raife (and CChris' Aide, also taken tragically young) - he was such a beautiful boy and clearly loving and loved.
Thanks for letting us know (call or message me if you want to unload), hugs to you'n'yours from T'n'me ...

Thanks one and all, I would recommend you all read the stickie about CPR under the Health sub forum you just might save your dogs life. I read it some time back and tucked it away and I have been beating myself up in case I did not do enough to save him. I remembered well enough but it was not to be.
Brian, he got softer and more loving as he got older but I do remember the BP walks, the puppy fight and Raife being covered with dirt and leaves. Not ready to unload yet I have Kai to look after and he is acting a bit odd as to be expected, lots of TLC needed for both of us. I am totally and utterly gutted.

I'm so sorry - 5 is no age at all. RIP Raife, run free.
Alan, you did everything you could, but it was obviously not to be. Please don't think it was your fault, or that you didn't do enough.

Maybe you could post some pix of Raife, Alan ?? Will do Brian but it might give some folks a shock on how much a sable GSD changes as it grows into adulthood. Give me a while I will have to reduce them in size.

It would be lovely to have a picture memorial of Raife, alongside Aide and Charley. All friends together ...

Alan My husband did CPR on our Max when had his first heart attack in the middle of a field - he was successful that time, but sadly not the 2nd time a couple of years later. Then, I had to force him to stop trying in the end, he was working on him for ages but I knew it was hopeless - it just wasn't to be.
