This is just a long shot. My daughter's friend has been made redundant & has had to move into a flat. She has come to the terrible decision that she must rehome her two bitch malinois. They're both 6 years old, well trained & sweet tempered. If anyone can help, would you let me know & I'll arrange introductions. Poor lady's in bits.

Oh no, how sad.
I can't help but I do hope she finds someone who will take them on. Do they have to go together?

I think she would prefer it, but her main concern is a good home - if that means seperate homes, then so be it.

Rescues I'd trust and who you might contact are (in no particular order): BIGGSD Run by John, who also runs German Shepherd Dog Rescue Surrey Contact John 01932 571268 0R john@biggsd.com www.germanshepherdrescuesurrey.co.uk/Mutts in Distress Run by Pat Clark mutts-in-distress.org.uk/GSRE Run by Lizzy and Allison gsrelite.co.uk/Sorry the first 2 are a bit southern, but GSRE are nationwide. Aren't there any dedicated mal rescues??

Hopefully your daughter's friend will find a good home for her dogs, it must be very distressing to have to give them up!

There are a number of Malinois rescue sites that come up with a google search, but I guess like most of us, she would prefer to keep them away from rescues. Some dogs hang about there for months but then I suppose there are worse things that can happen to them!
Poor lady, it must be a very stressful time for her.

BIGGSD is an 'umbrella' group for GSD rescue organisations, not a rescue itself. Member organisations vary, as with all rescues. But you couldn't meet a kinder or more genuine person than John - who runs his own rescue at the link I've given. BIGGSD is really only a _forum_ - which they've currently been forced to relocate to Tapatalk Forums (not to be confused with the Tapatalk fone app), rendering it impenetrable But if it's worth knowing about rescue, John will know it

But you couldn't meet a kinder or more genuine person than John - who runs his own rescue at the link I've given. BIGGSD is really only a _forum_ - which they've currently been forced to relocate to Tapatalk Forums (not to be confused with the Tapatalk fone app), rendering it impenetrable But if it's worth knowing about rescue, John will know it Yes, I couldn't remember the name of the actual rescue that we dealt with, that's why I mentioned BIGGSD. They were our first contact.
We did have dealings with John at the kennels that, from memory, are called Treetops, which was where the rescue dogs were housed. He was, as you say, a very nice person. I have no complaint whatsoever about him.
My gripe is the fact that they rehomed a dog that they hadn't bothered getting any background on (it was freely available to anyone who could pick up a phone and ask, which is what I did). The dog proved to be VERY unpredictable, bordering on dangerous and apparently had shown these traits on occasion for some time, this I found out after it was too late for us, we were not given any contact information until after we'd taken the dog on. It was then that I was able to talk to the Breeder, who had paid for the upkeep of the dog in kennels, and the original Vet who warned me to 'be very careful'!
I realise that rescues run on tight budgets and rely on volunteers but we're talking here about a dog whose original owners Vet had said was dangerous. As it turned out, she was right, he attacked my husband right out of the blue for no reason whatsoever, causing a serious injury to his hand and this happened more than once.
Hindsight is a wonderful thing, the incident caused us a great deal of anxiety and we had to make a heart-breaking decision to have the dog pts, something that haunts me to this day. He was such a beautiful dog to look at and I often think about him and wonder what else I could have done.
Apologies for hi-jacking the original post Caryll, has there been any progress regarding the Malinois?

No problem for hijacking - all opinions are valid for this lady!
I'll pass on what's been said & I'll put her in touch with BSD rescue.

That’s where Bucky came from, my 1 1/2 day rescue who went back after biting Teresa. I’ve since found out he is happy with a guy on the farm where he can be with the owner 100% of the time as he had serious separation anxiety. I’m so glad that he found a place after intensive behaviourist Working with Him.

It's all a matter of the right home for the right dog. Sometimes it takes a couple of tries!
