This time of year has two huge cat anniversaries, both on the November full moon 14 years apart, but this is for Henry for a reason.
Henry was a walk-in, and very much his own Cat. Determined to move in, yet at first afraid of the humans who lived there already, but his Cat friend said he could and so he did. Henry was so dubbed after Henry Hoover, for his habit of hoovering up Sarah's leftovers (I don't care for human names for pets but I haven't named a cat since 1987 and we didn't realise H was going to stay).
Henry loved pizza, and I mean the crust more than any meat on it. Henry stayed in the garden to guard and protect Sarah when she grew old, frail, deaf, nearly blind and senile. A true gentleman in his tuxedo.
Henry never got the memo about pets and fireworks. Even when they were fizzwhizzing up from next door's garden there was no keeping him in and he would sit on our path watching them go up and make pretty lights in the sky.
So when he left us suddenly, shocked and devastated, as we laid his body to rest and stood back in respectful silence, how fitting that a volley of fireworks went up to light up the sky one last time, just for my Henry.

What a sad but beautiful story.

Lovely story. It's often said that animals will choose who they want to live with, and he obviously made the right choice!

He came with his old owner's blessing, they recognised he needed a quieter home and respected his choice.
