Somehow there's a mystique grown up around the 'designer' angle?? The woman we met on the beach said 'she'd have loved a rescue dog, but she had 'allergies'...'

Wasn't that what Labradoodles were s'posed to be?? But the property seems to have attached itself magically to any 'designer' dog that you can make up a cute name for ...

I personally don't buy this "allergy" thing. Why would the fur of a crossbreed be less "allergic" or whatever you call it. I love the attitude of the vet nurse mentioned earlier

A friend of mine has a Labradoodle and she said she is forever picking tufts of hair from its body, it has to be brushed daily or it will get matted and they tend to suffer with skin conditions. Definitely not the hypoallergenic breed they are made out to be .

I love the attitude of the vet nurse mentioned earlier It reminds me of when I was growing up and people would say a cross breed is more healthier than a pure bred dog and that a mongrel never gets ill because it has the best of different dogs

I think 'proper' mongrels do have less health issues but the same can't always be said about these purposely mixed breed dogs. Some of the crosses do have strange titles though, don't they? My Osteopath, upon hearing that Lucy is a Shep x Collie, immediately said 'oh she's a shollie'! It's not something that I would ever call her.

Then there are those that have been crossed and used as working and field dogs such as the Sprocker (Springer Spaniel x Cocker Spaniel), Springador (Springer Spaniel x Labrador), Sprollie (Springer Spaniel x Border Collie) but these were not designer dogs but bred for working abilities. There was a Dalmatian x Labrador in our kennels once, that I named as a Dalmador or a Labration My mother has a Lhasa Apso x Jack Russell or should that be a Lhasajack or a Apsorussell or Lhasarussell or a Apsojack I know that in KNPV the test to determine suitable dogs for the Dutch police force, will cross a Belgian Malinois with a Dutch Herder and if the pup is a solid colour it will be registered as a Malinois and if Brindle would be registered as a Dutch Herder. I was told this was due to the fact both breeds are closely related and each breed can be found in each others genetic gene pool, they are not recognised by their countries kennel club but do have a separate registry. Again it is done for working purposes and not as a fashion accessory.

... and her 'cockerpoo' had a spiky coat, so I can't imagine it was 'sold as described'?? But the _cutest_, most outgoing little pup
