Today I heard of the death of a beautiful Shepherd who was rescued and brought up by our good friend Byron. I do not yet know any details as things are a bit raw as you can imagine. Brian and I first met Jake some years ago on a group walk, his owner was very concerned that if he let him off lead he would fight the other dogs. Brian and I monitored him and relised that he just wanted to play and get involved and he was fine when let off lead. They moved from Richmond to Switzerland and Jake would go with Byron to Starbucks and they would give him his own puppachino. Byron will be devastated to lose him, my heart goes out to him.

Jake was a rescue - like many rescues, wonderful with people but uncertain with other dogs. Such a lovely boy, I can still remember how _happy_ he was running with the MGS pack ❤️❤️❤️ Prob'ly the first time he ever swam??

Byron Cann : Charley Gtrmacs that is one of my most treasured memories. You folks were so incredibly supportive and kind. I'd wondered if Jake was ever going to be able to be a dog. He then had the BEST day ever. When we got home he fell asleep in his dinner dish. A thousand thanks are not enough.

This was the day we brought him home from the rescue. A bundle of anxiety wrapped in a most beautiful shell. He'd been mistreated and then left to fend for himself. A poorly used "bait" dog. Gerry and I are often amazed at the amount of resilience dogs have in overcoming past abuses. To skip forward a few years; we were in a Starbucks (our weekend outing with Jake) when a mother and young son asked if they could approach him. The mom spoke perfect English and we got into a friendly chat. When we looked over at Jake, the kid had fallen asleep on Jake. Both were out like lights. I love dogs. Miss you buddy...
