I personally think that article is a bit odd, interesting, yes, but I do not believe that cats can't hide from dogs or that dogs can actually "sniff" out cats. I am fairly certain that Molly has had a certain success rate, but to call her a cat detective is a bit far-fetched. Lovely story though

My two can definitely sniff out cats, they do it on a regular basis in the field behind my house. They tend to circle a seemly impenetrable bush and refuse to come away, I usually have to drag them off out of the way and then, lo and behold, eventually a cat appears. Not always the same bush either. Truth is most dogs are good at finding things.

Truth is most dogs are good at finding things. Yep, Axel is good at finding squirrels and any sort of ball-shaped object. He does not really like cats at such, but I don't think he would be able to sniff them out. But when he sees (or smells) a fox, another story...different dogs, different scents, but they all seem to know what they are after, I guess that is one of the reasons why so many dogs are trained to sniff out drugs etc. I suppose that most (if not all) on here do not do these things professionally. One of my mates thinks that dogs that are trained to do a job do not have "much of a life", as "they are never allowed to play", I told her I don't agree, that they are probably perfectly happy to do a job. And I am sure that dogs with work to do will still be allowed to play at other times.

I agree about the dogs with jobs, you never see a search dog (for instance) looking fed up, they look as though they're really enjoying themselves plus of course they get a reward at the end.

The only thing Dempsey would sniff out was food!
