Pretty good - but still not "4 times a day" Carlin, what are your thoughts on this? Why 4 times a day? Did I miss something in the article?

6 hour rule?? Would be sort of okay if there is 2 people looking after a dog (as with us), but if you are on your own it might be difficult? Even with the two of us, Axel has a break of 7!!! hours between walks at night time (last walk at about 10:30 pm (hubby) and the first walk in the morning about 5:30-6 am (me). During daytime we would not break Swedish law, lol. It's only during the day - most dogs can go 9 or 10 hours overnight without a toilet break, as can humans. Unless it's my husband who gets up 2 or 3 times a night!

Ah okay, not a problem in that case, of course dogs can wait, it was the bit in the article saying "6 hour rule". The article might have been sarcastic, I might have been over-sensitive (not Swedish)

Excerpt from the article: "Sure! The Swedes treat their dogs as family members so they cater to their needs more or less the same (or similar) way they do for their kids. By law, dogs in Sweden must be allowed to be taken out for a walk at least every 6 hours. What? Well, this is why dog daycare centres have sprung around the country, so they can take care of the dogs while their owners are at work. There are plenty of pet sitters too. Smart! " A walk at least every 6 hours?

Just guidelines. I have to admit to being old fashioned, though, in as much as I always walk my dogs at least 3 times a day other than in really hot weather. So, roughly, 7am, 12-1pm, 8-10pm. That's intervals of approx. 5-6 hours & 8-9 hours. Close enough.

I believe that's already law in Sweden? It is and we don't have animal police. Each county has animal welfare inspectors but I think they too slow to act in many cases. There have been calls for a better authority for animal welfare.
A dog must be taken outdoors at least every 6 hours. The dogs must be leashed while outdoors with exceptions for the forest but you need excellent recall. You have to provide adequate shelter for dogs that are outdoors. They have expanded the laws recently so that there is a requirement for your dog to be given mental stimulation and adequate activation during the course of the day. Dogs must be socialized daily with people and other dogs. They must also have a comfortable living temperature and good care for the pelt, teeth and claws.
