I can't stand the Eurovision Song Contest! What a load of poor quality songs & singers! Sorry, I'll get off my hobby horse now.

I don't like it either, and I am sure Brian can't be a Eurovision fan, his taste in music does not indicate any inclination towards Eurotrash.

But over the years, there's been a _lot_ of good music come from it - Can't actually think of any.....

But over the years, there's been a _lot_ of good music come from it - Can't actually think of any..... Brian, I have to agree with caryll - I challenge you - name that tune in one? And considering that none of the prolific (in my opinion) artists from Britain (or Germany, can't speak for any other country, lol) ever showed any interest in taking part, does that not tell you something? They probably thought it would be the death of their career. Yes, I know, people will say Cliff Richard, Lulu and Sandie Shaw took part, and a couple of other well-known people/bands, but not the same..The tunes all sound the same to me, cheerful and synthetic...all sort of conforming to what some people want to hear (a bit like the X factor).. A big show solely for the reason to make money.

... considering that none of the prolific (in my opinion) artists from Britain (or Germany, can't speak for any other country, lol) ever showed any interest in taking part ... It's become _very_ murky how UK entries get chosen - this year's (which will prob'ly remain secret now) was chosen by 'a panel of experts' with no public involvement. There's an apocryphal story asking how did we let people vote on Brexit, when the immediately previous public vote chose Gemini as our Eurovision entry ... (ps. There's even been Death Metal in recent EVs, it's not all homogeneity)

Can't actually think of any..... Abba ?? ABBA were already well known in Sweden, and their entry (Waterloo?) was awful! I never thought much of them myself, it all sounded the same to me. Imo they were lucky.
