My very beloved cat, Sera, passed away today. She became acutely ill in the night/early morning and was very obviously quite sick so I took her on an emergency time to the vet where they first suspected pancreatitis or possible liver damage as she has been taking pain medication for several months now. She had been vomitting at home and was very tender in her belly. They admitted her and put her on a drip and strong pain medicine. Bloodwork was ordered and they planned an ultrasound for the afternoon. I was home for 3 minutes, literally, when they called me and said Sera's abdomen was full of tumors and she had inflammation of the pancreas. She'd had cancer 4 years ago that we treated with surgery and I promised myself that should it ever return then she would be given a peaceful end.
The staff at the clinic were lovely and had a room all prepared for us, with a soft mat for her to rest on and candles. She was on a lot of pain medication and sedated so I could handle her without giving her pain and they gave me 20 minutes just us 2 so we could have a good cuddle. She went to sleep in my arms.
She was bright and vital and happy right until the very end. I was glad that it came suddenly instead of being a lingering illness.
I lived a third of my life with her company, 15 wonderful years. It's going to be hard going to bed tonight and not have my little trolly-olly in bed with me. I've known a lot of cats but she was a truly special and unique individual.

Thank you for the kind words.
It's much quieter here all of the sudden. She was a very communicative and chatty cat who greeted you every time she saw you. She had a special meow just for me (other people noticed it too so I'm not just convincing myself. She really was happy and playful right up until yesterday. Last night was hard because it is literally the first time in 15 years that I didn't have her curled up in bed with me. It really helped that I had the time with her where she wasn't feeling the pain or anxiety of the situation and could say goodbye while holding her.

Oh how sad, that's a lovely picture of her. She lived to a good age at 15. How has Buddy reacted? Has he been looking for her? Thinking of you.

He looked for her a few times but today he seems to have accepted that she is longer here. I also took away most of her things. She had a newer bed that I'd gotten her to keep her legs warm and another cat cubby that is in very good shape so those will go to the local cat rescue along with her food since I only opened it Friday evening.
Every time I come through the door I kep epecting her to be there doing her welcome home dance.

Carlin, so sorry to read about your beautiful Sera. We lost our cat too not so long back, she was 19 years old and it just tears you apart. She looks such a cheeky girl in the photo. Hugs to you. 🐾🐾
