It's a horrible disease. Luckily there haven't been any cases in my immediate area.

My (and Brian's) area seems to be free of it at the moment but anything like this will spread quite quickly. The last time I looked at that map there were far less markers on it than there is now. Just be vigilant.

There are a worrying number of cases around my area - Greater Manchester - problem is you can't stop going on walks. I have to hose Kira's feet and belly after every walk anyway so can't do much else except keep an eagle eye out for anything untoward. Reading full report of the disease it seems that some dogs may be more susceptible than others.

Poor dog, there was a case last year at the bottom of the road but not near where Rockys walked, very worrying though.

I think the worst part of it is not knowing how it's passed on, and so not knowing where to avoid.

I've been reading a bit about Alabama Rot and it seems to be somewhat isolated to the UK these days and there in the warmer regions. I wonder if it isn't a combination of pathogens, like a bacteria and fungus interacting to cause the infection. I read that infections are most common between November and May which is interesting. There is so little information about the disease . Do any of you use shoes to protect the feet of your dogs and maybe a fullbody rainsuit? Buddy has a rain coat already since the weather here can be just awful. I've been considering getting some shoes for Buddy to protect his feet from damp due to his allergies. I dry his feet thoroughly after walks but he still gets the itchies on both right side paws.

We did buy some boots for Dempsey, but even after a month he wouldn't walk in them. He'd just prance around, lifting his feet about 3 feet off the ground & falling over!
Luckily, we've only had one suspected case near us, and a couple of definites in Rockingham Forest area.
