I love to see Dogs playing naturally as they would have done in the wild. It reminded me of the lovely times of my Dogs that have passed. One of the most joyous things is when I saw a certain look in their eyes and they would take off running flat out around the Garden in sheer joy a priceless memory

funnily enough Luna has an Akita friend as well, they play rough too and he runs from her lol she does that high pitched excited bark whilst chasing him and he tucks his bum in and runs as fast as he can with her chasing him ! Shes way faster than him so they often end up spinning and bowling each other over. There's lots of snarling and wrestling but the teeth never seem to connect and as you've both said I keep a close eye on it to make sure it doesn't escalate. The Akita loves to rough house with Luna but he has been known to be aggressive with male dogs and if I think shes taking things a bit too far with him I call her away to break the hightened state of excitement a little before letting them play again. Sometimes just letting them know your watching keeps them behaving and not going too far.

As much as I love playing rough with my own Dogs I know it is nothing like as much fun as two Dogs just playing the way they should do. The tucking of the Bum made me smile I know just what you mean my Bull Mastiff used to do that before tearing off in a fit of pure joy.

Its so funny to see a big butch dog doing the bum tuck, then both front paws lift off for the hind end propulsion lol! then its all engines on full tongue slung over the shoulder and their off hehe
I love to rough house with Luna too and she really does hold back when gripping me with her jaws or even just playing tug she doesn't put her full weight behind it but I bruise like a peach, you just need to look at me the wrong way and I'm black and blue lol

... Sometimes just letting them know your watching keeps them behaving and not going too far. Isn't that the role we should be playing in _all_ of their lives ??

Indeed ! Your supposed to be the boss and make sure they stay in line but so many people just let them do what they want and dogs don’t always make the best decisions on their own especially if they are worked up/ over aroused/ fearful.

When we were at the Vets with Bobby discussing his latest thing the subject of having his doggy bits removed. We have had 3 big male Dogs all of who remained intact. None of them ever tried "humping" us even when excited in play. We don't ever hit our Dogs or shout at them but we are consistent with them and I think repetition and routine is so important for them to feel secure and happy. We have never ever had a cross word between them even when Roxy has such a bad reputation for being a nark. Going back to "wild Dogs" you cant get better than a happy tired Dog
