Yes, I saw something aboout this - there were a lot of lovely photos of a lady enjoying a day out with her collie and then some of the dog obviously unwell - then the dog died! It was heart breaking to read. We used to get the algae at a local park that has a small lake, but it has recently been completed renovated, dredged and planted up with bird islands and lots of water plants and so far the algae hasn't come back.

Saw this and was going to post it - but it's a US story, as is the CBS link?? But it _does_ happen in the UK (during hot summers??), too - CChris and me both know parks where dogs have been warned off swimming cos of blue/green algae

A couple of years ago our local pond was roped off, with signs warning about blue green algae - and people still let their dogs go in!

One of our local swim spots (Gartmorn Dam) gets the blue green algae blooming seasonally, they always put up warning signs when its there in the warmer weather telling to keep your dogs out of the water and also not to swim in it yourself.

When we used to go to the Welsh Harp in Brent there were signs warning of Weil's disease - and they use it for canoeing/water skiing/,,, !!
