I've never used Instagram - I think the author meant 'before digital sharing' ?? All those pix are analogue (film) (FYI, the NYT does better UK news than anything over here - daily email edition costs me about 4.00/month)

I think the pix in the piece were all by NYT photographers?? Prob'ly on plate cameras??
