We have a new addition to the family - Lucy is here! She's come from our local animal rescue and she's 7 months. She's very tiny and sooo slim! She used to live in a flat in Brighton so you can imagine how excited she gets about being in the woods.
No major problems so far except that when she's out on walks, she will not make eye contact at all, not even to look at treats. I suppose it's all too much at the moment, anyway I'm taking sausages with me today!

Pretty girl - I'm sure when she's settled she'll start looking to you for guidance We do a watered down version of NILIF - helps them learn what's required/expected, ymmv

At the moment I'm walking the dogs separately. Lucy is doing a lot of roadwork and she now sits at the kerb without prompting. She's also learning not to bark at other dogs, I've managed to get her attention and when she's quiet, she gets a treat and a cuddle. Seems to work well!

More photos of Lucy and Gus - Lucy is now just over a year old and has changed shape considerably. She is now as tall as Gus but is long and lean. I forgot to mention before that she has a hint of collie in there somewhere and it certainly shows when she goes off the lead. She plays in a completely different way to a GSD - in fact I often walk them separately because Gus prefers to potter and meander here and there, Lucy just wants to run all the time and Gus gets a bit fed up with that.
The first picture is a poor one but you can see Gus has his teddy!
This one is Lucy in the park with her ball on a rope.

They are lovely dogs. The walking separately at first is a good idea I think as it enables her to bond with you and you with her. Hoping everything is going to go well for you and she looks reasonably settled already which is a good start.

'No major problems so far except that when she's out on walks, she will not make eye contact at all, not even to look at treats.'When I read what I said at the beginning of this thread, I'm amazed how Lucy has improved. She immediately responds to the whistle, she has many comments about her good behaviour and there's no problem at all with eye contact etc. All is going very well indeed!
