Sweden has had only 1 death from the pandemic thus far but a lot of people have become very ill or been quarantined this week. I am supposed to start a new job on Monday but I'm not even sure the new workplace will be open.
I have bought food and supplies so I can get by for 2 weeks in isolation. I have arranged for care for Buddy in case I am sick or need to quarantine myself. I live alone so I need to take measures and be prepared. Some of my friends are already off work because their employers have shut down or cancelled work.
I refuse to panic but I want to be prepared. I had the flu 2 years ago and could not walk Buddy more than 20 meters when it was worst and had to send him to stay with someone else for a few days.
Has the pandemic affected you? How are you coping?

I am a firm believer that when your times up its up so lets not worry about it too much. That isn't to say you shouldn't take precautions, that would be daft. Teresa was at Asda yesterday and she said that a lady a few people further forward from her had two trolley's crammed full of toilet rolls and all types of disinfectant etc. It came to over £200. That's just insane.

I really do not understand the thing about stocking up on toilet rolls - what do people expect - the runs?? And anyway, there are alternatives to toilet rolls...

As far as I'm aware, nobody in Northampton has it. I'm going shopping this afternoon & one of the items I need (down to 1 & a half rolls) is toilet paper...........

Bad news the Northampton gazette says there is no toilet paper in the county.

I had to go to 3 stores before I found toilet paper in stock yesterday. Canned goods and ground beef were selling out as well.
The ironic thing is I'm quite healthy but Buddy has developed kennel cough. Last night I let him sleep in my bed because he had a fever and was quite down so I slept on the couch (I have a single bed and the couch is very comfy.) His fever is gone now but he is very much not himself today.

See? This is why I love this forum!
Everyone wishes Buddy well and no one even blinks at me saying that I let him have my bed when he is sick. (My ex-husband had a chuckle when I told him I slept on the couch so Buddy could rest, but he knows me. I slept on the floor for a week with our Golden when he needed emergency intestinal surgery at 11 weeks.)
He is better today than he was last night but I am actually leaving him alone so he gets good rest. He is vaccinated against the bacterial part of kennel cough but there is a nasty virus making the rounds and you can't vaccinate against that, sadly. It will be just like having a 4 year old with a nasty cold here! Sleep and liquids!

Poor Buddy! And yes, poor you for sleeping on the couch!! I hope he gets better soon for both your sakes! My employers are a worldwide company and we do get visitors from overseas, plus one or two in my department do occasionally travel for work. However, during the last week, all business trips out of the country of origin have been banned. I am very pleased that they've done this because we were expecting two colleagues from Switzerland next week and I just think 'planes are a constant source of infections, germs etc. In our office building, we have been restricted to using one entrance only and that has a hand sanitiser just inside which we have to use. Our cleaners have been instructed to pay more attention to door handles etc. I am not worried for myself but my husband has had a heart condition for 13 years and has breathing problems, he is also 73 years old and therefore at quite high risk. He isn't bothered himself, he says with the amount of drugs he has to take on a daily basis, no germ would ever get near him! One of the first people to get Covid-19 in the UK actually came from Brighton, which is about 11 miles away (approx 17.7 km) from where I live but that's about as close as it's got for me. Good luck with the new job.

Get Well Hugs for Buddy from T'n'me Tasha's only allowed to sleep in the bedroom when she's not well ... I go to Tescos while Tasha's at the groomers, about every 5 weeks - not stockpiling, but certainly bulk buying. Isn't that what cars/supermarkets are for?? This week they were queueing 20+ deep at the checkouts And they'd run out of peanut butter !!! (not a toilet roll in sight, etc...)

Tasha gets 3 * 1/2 teaspoons a day - as a reward for her eye drops and to help with her glucosamine/chondroitin caps
