One of my favourite places to go, Jacqui. North Cornwall is super for dogs - most beaches allow them all year round. Pepper and I (6 dogs ago) had to be helicopter rescued from that beach (it disappears completely at high tide). We still love going there - my Avatar pic is Charley on that beach after a swim

How exciting, going in a helicopter, but I bet at the time, it was pretty worrying!

I recently looked at a video of Charley in the waves, was that the same place? That would have been at Guidel Plages, in Brittany The first bit is me asking in my schoolboy french whether she was afraid of dogs How exciting, going in a helicopter, but I bet at the time, it was pretty worrying! That was the last beach holiday we took Lacey on - she'd have been about 17. She lost sight of us and for reasons only she could fathom she clambered up onto this huge rock to look for us By the time I'd got to her (there were two days of freak tide, and the beach disappears completely at high water), picking mussels out of cracks to find handholds, the sea was chest deep One of the first holidays with Dawny - couldn't admit to being terrified, there was a moment I was caught under a rock and lost my hat, thought, 'that's it ...'. But recovered and kept insisting we'd be ok. Eventually managed to push Dawn and Lacey up onto the rocks, but couldn't pull myself to a place where we might get back to the entrance and Pepper wouldn't leave me. So we decided that Dawn would try to get back to the entry and alert someone and I'd get as close to the cliff base as I could and hope to ride it out ... So Dawny had a terrifying hour lugging Lacey bodily over a rockfall, but she did make it back. She said it was utterly surreal, she'd been having a scary time, but when she got back to the passageway there was a lifeguard and kids playing on the small strip of beach remaining. She told the lifeguard what had happened and he put out an alert. Meantime, I've got Pepper up close to the cliff - but there was a 10ft drop behind me, so I was playing with her so she wouldn't panic. The lifeguard, meanwhile, had carried a small ladder round to where I was - easy if you know the beach as well as they do!! Told me help was coming, but he couldn't reach us - went back to the entrance and said, 'he seems ok, he's just playing with his dog ... '. So long wait, two sets of coastguards, the lifeboat came just to tell me the helicopter was on its way. When the helicopter rescue winched down, the sea was about 6ft away and the noise from the waves was horrific I asked him would I have been ok (_no_ ). He said they'd have to drop Pepper of on a clifftop first, then come back for me ('you _should_ be alright ... '), so we put Pepper into a cargo net and they winched her up. It was as if she did it every day, she didn't panic, so they came straight back down for me without dropping her off By now, the clifftops were lined with people and we were famous for a week I couldn't apologise enough, but they said no, they hadn't had so much fun for ages !! They were just pleased that we hadn't tried to climb out, apparently that's when most people get hurt?? We're much more wary of tides now ...
