Buddy and I had a guest for New Year's Eve, Tyson, a 7 month old GSD/malinois mix. Buddy was a good babysitter and did a lot of teaching in proper manners. I took them to the local dog run because tyson had so much energy today that he was vibrating. After an hour of wrestling, running and a lot of chasing toys things were a lot calmer at home!

Buddy and Tyson are sitting so nicely for their photo. That's great Tyson could visit and that they both get along so well.

Love dogs playing together - did they sit like that on command??

They did get on well though Tyson kept Buddy busy with correcting him because Tyson was so very much "on" and pestering Buddy. Buddy would bite him around the muzzle and hold him still and Tyson would yelp but calm down. There were no marks and not even spit from it. I took it as the adult telling the rowdy kid to cool his jets. They could play just fine and didn't even argue over toys which surprised me.
Both boys sat on command. This was taken after they had been wrestling and running around for about 30 minutes solid- which you can see by how much tongue is hanging out! I started teaching Tyson hand commands during the visit. Buddy learned them from me a long time ago in his training to help him focus on me so he does sit, lie down, roll over, up, stay, foot all on hand signals.
We ran into Tyson today and both were so happy to see each other. I think it's good for Buddy to have someone who challenges him a little and it's good for Tyson to have someone who does a bit of grown-up discipline.

Nice - once dogs are friends, they're friends for life Tasha doesn't meet Vinnie very often, but they just take up where they left off

Nice - once dogs are friends, they're friends for life Tasha doesn't meet Vinnie very often, but they just take up where they left off And yet they say that dogs don't have memories. After nearly 50 years of owning dogs, I can definitely say that they do, indeed, remember things!

Aide used to make a bee line for Brian when we were on group walks. She always seemed to recognise him. Why do we choose to think that they do not have any concern-able memory?

I think the 'experts' always said that dogs didn't remember things like that, and only really remembered simple repeated commands etc.
But anyone who has taken a dog to a favourite area, after a long time away, or to see a human who has been kind to them will know that that they remember all too well!

Charley always knew when we were close to my parents' house - even if we approached from a direction we'd never used before

Lovely photo of Buddy and Tyson - I am only just now catching up with all the photos! And you are all right, dogs do remember. Below a photo of Lola - wasn't she wonderful? Attachments:
